California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), UC Davis

CLTC was developed through a collaborative effort between the California Energy Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association to advance energy-efficient lighting and daylighting technologies. CLTC was established in 2003 at the University of California, Davis. The CLTC facility includes full-scale lighting and daylighting application laboratories for the development and demonstration of next-generation, emerging lighting and daylighting technologies. Comprehensive in-house and outreach training programs are being developed in cooperation with industry and utility groups to complement demonstration and application labs. As a demonstration and education facility, CLTC helps to establish key market connections by providing practitioners the hands-on opportunity to learn about energy-efficient lighting technologies and lighting design approaches. Furthermore, CLTC coordinates outreach and support efforts with existing utility-based energy centers, offering tours, demonstration materials, and technical assistance in the adoption of emerging technologies.

American Foreign Academic Research (AFAR)

American Foreign Academic Research, more commonly recognized as AFAR, is an organization dedicated to the advancement of archaeological field research, cultural site preservation, and the belief that the science can be advanced through the education and outreach of professionals and non-professionals alike. Since its inception in 2006, AFAR has pioneered full-scale international archaeological research incorporating pre-collegiate students, driven historically important site preservation initiatives, as well as developed outreach and educational programs for all ages and experiences. AFAR bridges the academic and non-academic worlds and works to educate and engage the youngest elementary students to intellectually curious senior citizens. Through education, research, and financial support, American Foreign Academic Research is actively opening the eyes of the world to the wonders of archaeology.

Centre for Ethical Leadership

The Centre for Ethical Leadership conducts internationally regarded academic research and delivers programs and tools to develop the ethical leadership capability of both executive and emerging leaders. The CEL is dedicated to developing leaders with the capacity to thrive within an increasingly disruptive world. We advance leaders who embrace disruption with a positive spirit and proactive mindset, all the time framing their decisions with moral courage and clarity. Our research agenda is a demonstrable force in enlightening leaders to both the moral and commercial advantages of embracing the principle of fairness in decision making. Transformational times demand transformational leaders who not only engage in morally rich storytelling, but also leaders who live and embody the story line. Based at Ormond College, University of Melbourne, the CEL delivers the Vincent Fairfax Fellowship™, our flagship ethics program for executive level leaders, and the two-day Ethical Leadership Program. Since its establishment, the CEL's major research project has been Gender Equality Project, a comprehensive research & training project, sponsored by leading organisations to identify new insights to address women’s lack of representation at the most senior levels of organisations. Blockchain@UBC

Blockchain@UBC is a collaborative research cluster (Blockchain and Distributed Research and Education Cluster) focusing on blockchain technology as one component of investigating the broader research question “How can emerging technologies be leveraged to benefit Canadians. The cluster fosters academia-industry collaboration on the understanding that combining applied and basic research produces higher-impact research than doing them separately. Grand challenges, exemplified by assessing how best to leverage new technologies for the benefit of Canadians, are not simply technical challenges. They are, at their core, socio-technical challenges. To understand how best to leverage new technologies, such as the blockchain, technical innovations must be accompanied by understanding the social, political, legal and institutional contexts within which the technology will operate, and to working with stakeholders within those contexts to introduce changes to the ways that they operate or think about their world that will complement the technical innovations. The cluster promotes collaborative teamwork to accelerate innovation and produce more frequent success stories. Teams comprised of individuals from diverse backgrounds (i.e., from different sectors or disciplines) bring complementary knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and use more diverse methods that can be used to leverage an important technological innovation such as the blockchain. Research that combines the knowledge base, work processes and evaluation methods of diverse disciplines also promotes more innovative research.
