Center for Children's Initiatives (CCI)

Center for Children’s Initiatives champions the right of all children to start life with the best possible foundation of early learning, care and health. Founded in 1982, CCI has thirty years of experience supporting families by helping them to be more effective consumers of early care and learning services. CCI provides specialized training and one-to-one technical assistance to all types of programs serving children birth through school age. CCI is a respected and nationally recognized voice promoting appropriate public investments and innovative solutions to improve quality and access to the best options for all families. Informed by our relationships with parents, professionals and policy makers, CCI is uniquely positioned to provide insight and recommend solutions. CCI’s Parent Referral Service assisted nearly 4,000 New York City parents this past year in navigating the complexities of finding and choosing early care and education arrangements for their children. In 2011, CCI provided information, ongoing technical assistance and professional development opportunities to more than 3500 individuals and organizations seeking to start-up, expand, maintain and improve the quality of their services. CCI’s professional development opportunities span from early literacy and business management training to long-term intensive accreditation support and required credentialing classes for after school professionals. The Center for Children’s Initiatives, a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt organization, is governed by a Board of Directors led by Chairperson Carol Saginaw. Executive Director Nancy Kolben brings more than 25 years of experience to the organization. The CCI staff is made up of early childhood professionals, specialists in infant and toddler care and education, former teachers, social workers, policy experts, nonprofit professionals and health care experts.

LANL Foundation

Since 1997, the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Española, has worked to inspire excellence in education and learning in Northern New Mexico through innovative programming, collaboration and advocacy. By investing in human potential, the Foundation’s vision is that all New Mexicans have the skills and confidence they need to be self-sufficient, lifelong learners who are engaged in their communities. Programs in early childhood, STEM inquiry education, scholarships and small grants serve Northern New Mexico communities primarily in Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe and Taos counties.

beyond blindness

Beyond Blindness, formerly Blind Children’s Learning Center, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to empower children with visual impairments and other disabilities to achieve their fullest potential. Areas of service include Early Intervention, Education + Enrichment, and Family Support (outlined below), which help children, no matter their abilities, live full and rewarding lives. The Beyond Blindness team embraces a people-first approach and values family, connection, impact, inclusion, stewardship, and optimism. Early Intervention Early Intervention services provide comprehensive support and resources to children ages 0 to 3 to overcome early obstacles, meet key milestones, and establish a foundation for each child to reach their fullest potential. Home-based and center-based services offer vision stimulation and therapy services that help to minimize developmental delays and optimize growth towards an independent future while toddler classrooms, located onsite, focus on healthy development and school readiness. Education + Enrichment Through Beyond Blindness’ Education + Enrichment services, students receive itinerant (within their public school classroom) education support with a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), Orientation & Mobility training (O&M), and the opportunity to attend fun and valuable summer camps. Additional Education + Enrichment services include assistive technology training, peer groups, expanded core curriculum, and life-skills development. Family Support Our Family Support services enable Beyond Blindness to be a resource for families of children with visual impairments and other disabilities throughout the child’s entire journey of care. These services not only offer necessary and comforting support to parents, grandparents, siblings, children and more in the form of education, training and inclusive family events, but they also help provide guidance, a sense of community, and more.
