Universal Works

Universal Works produce contemporary clothing for all. The companies first collection launched in '09 with David Keyte (UW co-founder, director, designer) working from his kitchen table with an aim to make real, honest clothing based on fit and good design, though never over designed. UW. was inspired by David’s formative years growing up in a provincial midlands town in the seventies, part of a working class family that loved to dress well; seeing his Dad and Uncles in their work-wear and also when dressing for the weekend. Next, working as a sign-writers apprentice, whilst experiencing the development of eighties sporting and music subcultures. And finally a thirty-year span in the fashion industry. From Paul Smith to Maharishi he gained an education from and worked alongside some of the best in the industry. With David’s life work reading like a description of the companies DNA, Universal Works is about the mixing of ideas; understanding heritage and context underpinned by contemporary needs and aesthetics. We champion skilled, small-scale production. We produce garments in the right place, both in the UK and overseas, working only with factories we trust, admire and are proud to be associated with. The company also gives us an opportunity to collaborate with amazing people from artists to writers and anyone in between, a process that inspires continual growth and education. Have a look at our Journal section to meet some of these people. After initially selling to ten retailers, we have gained a substantial following and are now stocked from Los Angeles to Seoul. Our head-office and web store is based in Nottingham and we have three Universal Works stores; Berwick Street in Soho (opened in 2013), Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross (opened in 2018) and Derby Road in Nottingham (relocated here in 2023). We are happy & proud to be an independent, small company, always approaching our work with passion and a sense of humour.

DÔEN is a Los Angeles-based line inspired by nostalgia for the California of decades past. Driven by the shared desire to make elevated yet wearable pieces for the everyday, we strive to bring more than a boutique shopping experience to you but to use DÔEN to connect with our customers, build an open community, and foster relationships with the inspiring individuals who wear our clothes throughout their lives. As a women-owned company, a cornerstone of the DÔEN brand mission is supporting women in the workplace and in the supply chain. We are intentional when selecting our manufacturers, partnering only with factories that share our values. We are proud that our production partners share our commitment to supporting those who identify as women in the workplace and are collaborators in our mission to eliminate the gender gap at every point in the supply chain. We have chosen to work with women-owned or co-owned manufacturers: Currently, 50% of our apparel factories are owned by women, and the other 50% are co-owned. We believe that today’s sustainability conversations, which have been centered around environmental impact, are crucial - but are interconnected to environmental, economic, racial, and social justice. We work with 3rd-party compliance audits and certifications to evaluate our manufacturing partners on a host of practices, from gender and social equality to wages to ethical work environments. In making a decision to work with a specific facility, we look for several indicators - including the people in management roles that identify as women, the factory’s control of all stages of production, the presence of internal worker’s unions, and any established foundations/organizations that directly benefit their employees and/or the surrounding community.

Margaret Howell Limited

Established in 1970 and incorporated in 1987 Margaret Howell Limited is an internationally recognised design company with more than 100 shops and concessions including London, Paris, Florence and throughout Japan. Under the design direction of Margaret Howell the company produces men's and women's clothing and an extensive household goods collection produced by specialist manufacturers in the UK and Italy. It's MHL. label was established in 2003 and is workwear inspired and European produced. Since 1999 the company has produced shirts and nightwear in its own North London factory. The headquarters, based at 34 Wigmore Street, London, accommodate both the design studio and flagship shop selling the mens and womens collections alongside homeware products that complement the design ethos, including Poole Pottery, Ercol and Anglepoise together with designers such as Robert Welch and David Mellor.

Compreli Consulting

Compreli Consulting (Private) Limited specialize in Garment Recovery, Apparel Business Transformation and Training & Certification. We have partnered with 150+ Garment manufacturers around the world who equally understand the severity of the clothing waste epidemic and have adopted our apparel restoration program turning damaged garments into A grade shippable garments. As a third-party service provider, we are able to restore faded or off-shade garments, garments with cut marks or holes and so many other defects. We are happy to do our part by significantly lowering the chances of defective garments ending up in landfills. We have saved 2.5 million garments thus far which is equivalent to saving 19,768 metric tons of CO2, 192 million gallons of water and 1,557 metric tons of waste.
